Work Experience

Work Experience Placements at Alnwick Playhouse

Our placements are tailored to give each student an insight into all the core aspects involved in the day to day running of a theatre, including Front of House, Box Office, Marketing, Administration and Technical/Projection duties

Students undertaking a placement will spend time with each department over the course of one week to develop an understanding of the role and will be offered the opportunity to gain practical experience where possible. They will also be given the chance to speak to  department heads to ask in-depth questions about the roles performed and gain insight into potential career paths.

While there is no scope for performing during the course of the placement, previous students have worked closely alongside visiting professional companies and gained valuable insight into performance practices along the way. Placement opportunities will be advertised on our website when available or you can email including the dates you wish to be considered for and a short statement about why you wish to undertake your placement with us.

Please note: competition for places can be extremely high and in the case of several applicants for the same dates we will hold a short interview with each applicant to select who will be given a place.

Due to the nature of our venue and the programme we run we may not always be able to offer placements within specific dates set by schools. Tailored projects for pre/post graduates may be considered on an individual basis.

We also offer occasional placements for those with a dedicated interest in technical roles such as lighting, sound and Stage Management. To enquire about these please email
