Support for the Playhouse Appeal has been fantastic since closing the doors we have hosted a number of fundraising events at our temporary home at the Alnwick Lindisfarne Annex..
In December we had two festive concerts, Christmas Carols from the Alnwick Playhouse Concert Band followed by a Carol Concert from the Alnwick Playhouse Community Choir. Tickets were free with a suggested donation of £10 which included a selection of sweet and savoury festive treats, including mince pies and mulled wine. Both were well attended and raised over £650.00 for the Playhouse appeal.
Floral Gift of Northumberland also gave us a festive treat in December with two SOLD OUT workshops helping you create your own Christmas wreath. Using locally sourced, naturally foraged findings Floral Gift provided everything needed to create your own decorations, including refreshments! Tickets were £20 per person and it helped raise over £125.00 toward the appeal.
Our Community Choir presented an evening of Spring themed pieces on 1st April in their Spring Concert. The songs were taken from a wide range of musical genres. Tickets were free but a donation to our Show Your Support public appeal was much appreciated. Thanks for a great evening on song!
Our Playhouse Christmas Raffle was drawn at this year’s Alnwick BIG Christmas Sing in the marketplace. As well drawing the raffle the Christmas carols were accompanied by the Alnwick Playhouse Concert Band. The raffle helped to raise an incredible £1700.00 toward the redevelopment. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes!

The Duchess’s Community High School performed their show, Christmas Epiphany on the 19th & 20th December at the school, donating all the proceeds to the ‘Show Your Support Campaign’. It was a fantastic production with a very talented cast. The Playhouse staff supported the production technically and with Front of House management.
‘All the money we raise from the show is going towards the Playhouse and contributing to the renovation. For all of us this means a lot because we all love performing on the Playhouse stage and working with the Playhouse staff. We have really missed being on the Playhouse stage this year and can’t wait to be back when the Playhouse re-opens!’

Our talented Mini Youth Theatre performed their musical version of ‘Peter Pan’ on Saturday 8th December to family and friends at the Lindisfarne Annex. The show was well supported and both the parents and children were delighted with their performance. It also raised a fantastic £254.16 toward the show you support appeal. Thanks to everyone involved for all their hard work.
Our Senior Youth Theatre performed Stuff by Tom Wells on Fri 15th & Sat 16th March at Lindisfarne Annex as part of National Theatre Connections, a nationwide celebration of new plays for young people. Stuff is one of ten brand new plays written especially for Connections by a selection of the best playwriting talent in the UK. National Theatre Connections is one of the UK’s largest celebrations of youth theatre. Plays are commissioned for and about young people, from some of the best contemporary playwrights, and performed by schools and youth theatres all over the UK and Ireland. Young people have the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of creating and staging the play both on and offstage, from set design to costume, lighting and stage management.
Multi award winning Alnwick Stage Musical Society (ASMS) presented Cabaret on Broadway from the 20th to 23rd March, they had been hard at work since last September on the production – a celebration of the greatest Broadway musicals. Huge chorus numbers, dance routines and solo performances were all intertwined with an underlying story of the struggles, hopes, disappointments and successes of life on the stage. It drew together many of the best songs from the most popular Broadway shows including; Cabaret, Chicago, 42nd Street, Sweet Charity, Fame, Rent, Fiddler On The Roof, Sunset Boulevard, Les Misérables, The Greatest Showman and many more. This year’s production was created by Leonie Airlie, Kellie Hughes who have been joined by Lynne Lambert and Peter Brown to produce a spectacular show where all the proceeds went to The Playhouse’s Show Your Support Appeal. Thank you to everyone involved!
Some of the profits from this year’s Annual Duck Race at The Alnwick Garden were also donated to support the Playhouse. A great day out was had by all as crowds watched hundreds of ducks race down the Grand Cascade in aid of local charities.
